The Counseling Center for Women was founded in Rochester, Michigan in 1992.  The Center has a friendly, homelike atmosphere and has been a place of help and comfort for hundreds of women.  The location of our office was chosen for the privacy it allows our clients, as well as the feeling of being a part of the downtown community.  The staff is committed to helping women identify strengths, and our philosophy is based on the concept of empowerment.  Taking control of one's life fosters individual growth and personal fulfillment.  Even though the Center does focus on issues primarily concerning women, we work with men, couples, adolescents and children as well.

Our Staff:   The staff at The Center includes seven independent counselors with at least a Master's degree or above.  Each counselor has a specific area of specialization.   You can learn more about our counselors here.

There's a Hole In My Sidewalk
by Portia Nelson

1)  I walk down the street.
There is a deep hole in the sidewalk.
     I fall in.
     I am lost...I am hopeless.
             It's not my fault.
It takes forever to find a way out.

2)  I walk down the same street.
There is a deep hole in the sidewalk.
           I pretend I don't see it.
           I fall in again.
I can't believe I am in the same place.
           But, it isn't my fault.
It still takes a long time to get out.

3)  I walk down the same street.
There is a deep hole in the sidewalk.
            I see it is there.
            I still fall in...it's a habit.
                   My eyes are open.
                   I know where I am.
      It is my fault.
      I get out immediately.

4)  I walk down the same street.
There is a deep hole in the sidewalk.
     I walk around it.

5)  I walk down another stree
