Jane A. Banas, M.A., L.P.C., N.C.C.

I am the current owner and director of The Counseling Center for Women.  I am a nationally board-certified professional counselor with a Master’s degree in counseling from Oakland University. My strongest area of interest centers around women’s issues.  My particular areas of professional specialization include depression and anxiety; interpersonal relationships/marriage; life transitions; self-esteem and recovery from trauma. I have extensive experience in working with survivors of domestic violence. Most central to my philosophy is empowering women to take control over their lives and develop the ability to reach their full potential. Theoretically, I prefer to remain flexible in my counseling philosophy and use an eclectic approach based on client need, with an emphasis on cognitive-behavioral therapy. I have worked with women and women’s groups for many years. Presently, I work with individuals and couples.

I live in Rochester with my husband of thirty-four years and am the mother of two adult children.

“Thought is cause; Experience is effect. If you don’t like the effects in your life, you have to change the nature of your thinking.”
